In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, The New Savant was invited to create a custom, limited-edition candle for the WNBA’s New York Liberty basketball team. As fans it was an easy, enthusiastic yes. It was also a special opportunity to honor my co-founder, Ingrid, whose Thai roots have informed TNS from the very start.

And so we got to work. Inspired by Lady Liberty, we named the candle “Carry the Torch” and created a custom label and box that would evoke a sense of playfulness and pride. From our scent library, the Liberty selected Androgyne as the candle’s fragrance. The pick happens to be one of our best sellers –– and rebellious, fluid and unapologetic in nature. Much like this iconic basketball team. 

The candle launched at the May 27th game and we were blown away by the enthusiasm and support. The Liberty produced a video about TNS (see below) and played it on the Jumbotron. Neither of us ever imagined we’d be on a Jumbotron, but we gladly stepped into the moment with the full TNS spirit. 10/10 would highly recommend. :)
