Halloween Movie Watch List, Curated by the TNS Fam

Halloween Movie Watch List, Curated by the TNS Fam

by Paola Trinh

Halloween isn’t just a night, it’s a feeling. The flicker of candlelight on a glass of red wine. The hum of an old film playing in the background. The scent of something dark and unfamiliar curls through the room.  This year, we’re leaning into that feeling. Building worlds out of wax and story, where scent becomes the atmosphere that holds the scene together.

When our community started sharing their favorite Halloween movies, a pattern emerged: every pick had an atmosphere. The kind of film you don’t just watch. You feel. So we decided to take it one step further, to match those stories with scents that bring their worlds to life. The result is our first-ever New Savant Halloween Movie Watch List. From cult classics to badass witch stories, these picks capture every shade of the season.

So dim the lights, press play, and let scent pull you deeper into the moment.

Just Bitten

Movie Pairings: Practical Magic, Blade

Dark, opulent, and haunting, Just Bitten is for the ones who crave the thrill of nightfall. With notes of crimson pomegranate, vampire-repelling verbena, and white oak stake, it captures the energy of the power and secrets that linger past midnight.

Imagine the Owens sisters’ kitchen filled with large fruit bowls of pomegranate as they stir something stronger than coffee, or the pearlescent glint of Blade’s katana under a blood-red club light. Just Bitten walks the line between those worlds. Love and danger. Moonlight and shadow.

Confident, dark, and oozing with supernatural power, it’s the scent you wear when you’re ready to fight demons, literal or metaphorical.

Set the Scene:

  • Light Just Bitten 15 mins before the opening credits, as dusk settles

  • NO OVERHEAD LIGHTS (candlelight and darkness only)

  • Sip something crimson (we recommend a pomegranate spritz)

Witching Hour

Movie Pairings: The Craft, Hocus Pocus

Bubbling potions curling through candlelight. Laughter breaks a spell. The air is alive with coven bonds and mischief. Witching Hour blends persimmon, black truffle, and red wine into a scent that feels spellbinding. Equal parts rebellion and ritual.

It’s the scent of sisterhood and chaos, of late-night power circles and whispered secrets. Whether you’re channeling The Craft fierce defiance or the playful enchantment of Hocus Pocus, Witching Hour empowers you to stay curious, question the rules, and embrace your inner enchatress.

Set the scene:

  • Gather your coven

  • Light Witching Hour 15 mins before starting the movie

  • Crack a window open

  • Pour a glass of wine (preferably in a goblet)

Library in a Forest

Movie Pairing: The Shining

For the ones who like their Halloween quiet, where the tension builds in silence and every creak of the floor feels like a heartbeat.  Library in a Forest combines earthy spruce bark, green pine needles, and the comforting hush of pages turning in the dark.

This scent feels like the pause before the scream, the calm before the chairs. Pair it with Kubrick’s masterpiece (The Shining), and you've got the perfect recipe for a night of eerie stillness and slow-burning suspense. A scent for those who love to linger in the in-between, between thought and fear, between story and silence.

Set the Scene:

  • Turn down the lights

  • Close all the blinds

  • Light Library in a Forest as the opening credits roll

  • Cozy up with a mountain of blankets and popcorn, and keep one eye on the hallway

Whether your Halloween is cozy or chaotic, may your night be full of stories worth remembering and candles that smell like they’ve seen things.

Happy Halloween from The New Savant!
