Girl in a Sweater was inspired by hot apple cider Ingrid had last year (and can't stop thinking about!), her love of fall and the feelings of melancholy that inevitably come with change. This crisp, sophisticated, slightly smoky apple fragrance explores the complexities of independence through the central character of the "girl in a sweater."
Ingrid designed this scent with a tone of melancholy, the kind that comes with living in a big city like New York. It's magic, but it's also difficult and there are moments where you can feel like just another face in the crowd. Picture the girl in a sweater single and dating, in-between two big relationships, one that has come to pass and one yet to reveal itself.
This melancholy is not about being alone, as she relishes her independence, it's more about the sadness that comes along with taking a less traditional path. Perhaps waiting longer than her peers to get married or not getting married at all, choosing a career others don't understand and having no one else to rely on financially.
The girl in a sweater allows herself these moments of melancholy in order to feel the full breadth of happiness for the path that she's chosen, because she truly does love it. She's choosing herself over the expectations of others and giving herself the life she wasn't able to have when she was younger. That feels like real growth and independence.
For Ingrid, autumn is the season that reminds her of this lesson. It signals that change is supposed to happen – and even nature can't always be bright and green all year.

I’ve always loved apple-scented candles but had run into a years-long slump; every candle smelled the same - boring, flat and uninspiring. This blew all my expectations out of the water, and then some. Lighting this candle during the fall (and early winter) season made me so, so happy.

"Autumnal" candle scents are my favorite year-round, but I typically gravitate towards woody /spicy / smoky. A lot of apple-forward candles are a little too one-note, overly sweet, or artificial and air freshener-y if you know what I mean. NOT this! GIAS truly makes your house smell like you have a mulled cider or wassail on your stovetop in the middle of fall. I think the eucalyptus, pine and rosemary notes are doing some great work to keep it from being too sweet or heavy, and the apple is super fresh and natural. It's wonderful for nighttime but the crispness makes it really comforting and pleasant for day too. As with most of the TNS candles I've tried, the throw on this is nuts. It fills up a room in minutes. Definitely my favorite apple-centric candle. It pairs REALLY well with Library in a Forest, too!
